4040 - Three becomes one
Jim begins a new reno: Braymore. This house is divided into three apartments and has to become a single family home. Jim and the homeowners quickly realize nothing’s as simple as it seems. Jim’s starting from scratch again. The foundation for his new home is taking shape- irregardless of the sub-zero temperatures.
4041 - Small, not easy
Over at the Braymore renovation problems have already arisen- things are moving too slowly for all involved. Jim and Neil install stairs and measure for the addition. A new reno begins at Thornwood, a huge home with a seemingly small back addition- no one said small meant easy!
4042 - Holding up the house
The framing is finally taking shape at the Braymore renovation. The homeowner talks frankly about problems and delays. At Jim’s own house moving in dates seem well off on the horizon. Demolition and underpinning have begun at the Thornwood renovation.
4043 - Falling behind
At the Braymore renovation things are behind schedule. Everyone’s working quickly to get the family moved in. Even Jim helps to do some trim work. Things are better at the Thornwood reno where a new steel installer has been hired.
4044 - Moving in Day
It’s moving day at the Braymore renovation- but moving day doesn’t always mean it’s finished! The framing takes shape at the back addition, but it isn’t always easy matching the addition to the century old home.
4045 - Final Days
The inside is near completion at the Braymore renovation, but Jim and Neil are enlisted to build a deck. Things are winding down at the Thornwood reno, what started as a small addition has grown exponentially.
4046 - Jim moves...again
After a long haul, the Thornwood reno is finally finished, Jim and Neil reflect on what was a difficult job. Time is up at Jim’s rental and he now moves into another temporary pad.
4047 - The last word
The three apartments at the Braymore reno have now successfully become one beautiful home. The homeowners, Jim and Neil comment on what at times was a bumpy ride. Over at Jim’s own reno the house is finally taking shape.
4048 - Day in the Life
What does a day as contractor and foreman really consist of? From the alarm clock buzz to the end of a day’s shift, Jim and Neil’s every move are followed. Neil is busy running errands and overseeing a job near completion. Jim has a leisurely day over at his own home build.
4049 - New beginnings
A family with a new baby has run out of room, so another full renovation begins. The Princeton house is gutted leaving only a few walls standing. Jim does a small bathroom job for a friend, with beautiful results. Jim and Neil rant about some of the woes of contracting.
4050 - Hitting the roof
At the Princeton reno Jim and the homeowner discover that something’s amiss with the rafters. Jim’s in need of some waders when he sees the pool of water waiting for him in the basement. A full gut job begins at Dalewood that will require a rear and side addition.
4051 - Winter Woes
Christmas is coming and the homeowners at Princeton have a lot on their wish list. Jim is dubious that the house will be ready for spring. At the Dalewood reno the addition foundation is slowly taking shape. The homeowner tours the gutted house and is also hoping for a spring finish.
4052 - Slugging along
At Jim’s own reno there are a couple of oversights to be dealt with; the bathtub doesn’t fit, and the basement windows need to be larger. The Princeton reno has the homeowners talking as they deal with unexpected delays. Jim takes on some manual labour over at the Dalewood reno.
4053 - Upstairs, Downstairs
At the Princeton reno there is a small oversight with big repercussions. Jim and Neil have the task of relocating a whole flight of stairs. Progress has been hindered by bad weather over at the Dalewood reno. Jim, the architect and the homeowners meet to discuss a possible change with the windows. Jim and Neil go to choose rustic, reclaimed wood for flooring in Jim’s own house.
4054 - Finishing Touches
Things are moving slowly at the Dalewood reno. Neil and the carpenter talk to the engineer about unforeseen structural issues. Over at Princeton everything on the inside is moving along nicely until some unforeseen tension mounts. For the outside, Jim and Giancarlo embark on building a shed.
4055 - The last haul
Over at Princeton it’s down to the wire: a few days before moving day and the house is frantic with trades people. At Jim’s own house, he talks with a landscaper to make outdoor plans. Later he has the task of fixing poorly installed door trim. It’s decision time for the Dalewood exterior. The homeowner and designer meet to choose siding and shingles. Neil has the task of explaining all the “extras” to the homeowner.
4056 - A stunning finish
It’s been more than a year in the works, but the Princeton reno has finally transformed into a stunning house.
At Dalewood, things finally seem to be in full swing. The challenging turret has been re-framed, but suddenly rotten soffits pose yet another decision to be made by the homeowner. Jim’s own reno is ready for final touches: he meets with his decorators to discuss colour.
4057 - The final move?
It’s the final stretch for Jim’s own reno. All the trades are pushing ahead to make Jim’s deadline a reality; but will he make it? The final results are beautiful and Jim has one more “notch” in his tool belt. Neil and baby Max go for a swim and reflect on the past year.
4058 - Habitat Special One
Jim starts a new charitable project for Habitat for Humanity; the site is small and the timeline is short and just like most renos, not everything goes smoothly. Jim meets the deserving family that will be buying the house, and gathers all his trades to get the job done. After a trying time with the footings the volunteers arrive to realize things are a little behind; the push is on to get the prefabricated floors in place.
4059 - Habitat Special Two
In phase two of the Habitat for Humanity build, Jim and Neil explain that the schedule is now more than a little behind. Carpenter Giancarlo gets a new job as teacher while Jim gets cutting lessons from his crew. After the walls go up, and the roof trusses go in, we start to see the form of a home. The soon-to-be homeowner is excited by all the progress.
4060 - Habitat Special Three
The frantic pace has slowed at the Habitat for Humanity home, but a lot still must be done. Jim, Neil and carpenter Wayne have the task of putting the stairs in; not always as simple as it looks. After the finishing touches are done inside, Jim and his crew move outside to build a deck. Finally, the house is completed and the new owners couldn’t be more pleased.
